Our Story

Maldon Brass Band’s rich history dates back to 1863 and believed to be one of the oldest Brass Bands registered in Victoria.

Over the past 163 years, Maldon Brass Band have played at all Maldon’s major historic events, have had success at many prestigious competitions including Ballarat’s Royal South Street Eisteddfod, and have had many iconic fashion looks throughout history to boot.

Nowadays, there is seldom a town event that does not feature a performance from the Brass Band. Find us playing in the park on Australia Day, parading throughout the town during the Maldon Easter Fair, marching with our war veterans on ANZAC Day, bringing the fanfare to the Maldon and Baringhup Agricultural Show, playing on the Maldon Folk Festival stage to finishing each year in the festive spirit with Maldon’s Carols by Candlelight.

Introducing, our Junior Brass Band! *

“Having the children in the Band means that a tradition of over 160 years is being passed on to the next generation. Their skill and enthusiasm, and the modern repertoire that has been written for them just adds to the excitement of band practice.”

In recent years, Maldon Brass Band was incredibly fortunate to have received a very generous donation from a local philanthropist. The donor's specific intention was that the funds were to be invested into bringing in fresh young talent to ensure the future of the Band continues to thrive.

We are chuffed to have been able to hire a music tutor as well as providing brass instruments for tuition to many students of Maldon Primary School.

Those students have the opportunity to join Maldon Brass Band, be mentored by the senior members of the Band and experience the joy of performing in their local community.

The Juniors have been a marvellous asset to the Band and we’ve been thrilled to arrange peices to showcase the kids’ talents.

Move over Aces High and welcome Lady Gaga! It’s an exciting time for Maldon Brass Band.
